About Us

InTheSandbox
InTheSandbox is a new way people can study Microsoft Official Curriculum materials - self-paced, but with us providing both the necessary software and personal mentoring throughout the course.

InTheSandbox includes the same Microsoft Official Curriculum used at live courses - including the full paper manual.

Superior Training Materials

·    From Microsoft, the application vendor

·    Supports internationally recognized certification exams

·    In widespread use, so the bugs are known, and trainers can share notes

On Your Local Machine

·    Do it when you want to

·    At your own pace

·    No internet connection needed

Personal Mentoring

·    Top quality instructors who know the material, and have used it in the real world

·    Considered opinions, not just off-the-cuff answers

·    Personal attention

·    Growing knowledge base and FAQ from previous students

Uses Virtual Machine Technology

·    Portable: take the machine home or to work as you like (requires portable hard disk)

·    Simple to setup - less than 15 minutes

·    Real software, so you can explore the things that interest you

·    Fully functional - not limited by needs of other students

·    VirtualPC - now from Microsoft - so products are supported in this environment

·    Run multiple virtual machines on your PC if the course requires it

·    Setup is proven: the labs all work (and you can reset it if you make a mess of the machine)

·    In May 2004 Microsoft announced that all future MOC courses would use Virtual PCs – so they agree that this is a great way to do training!

Microsoft's courses come with a course schedule for fulltime learning - so a ‘5 day’ course would take 5 full time days to complete. We measure the length of each course based on those full time days, but with InTheSandbox you can go slower or faster, based both on how much extra exploration you want to do, how much time you can devote to learning, and your preferred pace.

You work through the course when you have time - weekends, nights - whatever works for you. We advise people to do at least the equivalent of a full day each week, so that a 5 day course can be finished in 5 weeks.

InTheSandbox provide the software needed for the course fully installed and configured inside a Microsoft VirtualPC hard drive - so you get real software, all set up for doing the labs and exercises in the course.

The virtual hard drives are highly optimised, to maximise performance, and we provide both instructions and mentoring for getting it all going.

If you seriously mess up, you can just make a fresh copy of the virtual hard drive and be back with a machine that is ready to go in only minutes.

Our mentors assist you via a Windows Sharepoint Services site: you post questions to the bulletin board which the mentor responds to within 24 hours. This way you aren't left on your own. You have someone who can explain things to you a different way, or help you to complete an exercise.  Besides knowing the courseware, our mentors are all real engineers/developers (not full time trainers), and have experience to share.  Over time, the Sharepoint site is accumulating valuable FAQ, and other value adds. This includes links to relevant material for further study, expansion exercises, hints and tips and so on.

If you are interested in certification, our mentors can provide some exam preparation tips, and - optionally - we can also (for a charge) provide access to practice exams. The mentors are all MCSE/MCSD themselves as well as being Microsoft Certified Trainers, and definitely have passed the exam for the course they teach - believe it or not, that isn't a Microsoft requirement of the training companies anymore!

InTheSandbox costs roughly half the price of live MOC training – so it is cost effective, too!
