Assessments from MeasureUp

Part of helping your employees learn and grow is measuring where they are and where they need to go. MeasureUp specializes in assessments for hiring, training placement, and proving knowledge transfer.  MeasureUp provide the assessments Microsoft gives to the world (click here for more details).

Assessments can help you allocate work to the correct staff member, prove knowledge retention, and plan further training efforts. The assessments package we leverage:

  • Quickly appraises a user's knowledge or ability
  • Can be used to determine skill level before and after training
  • Does not display answers
  • Limited in number of questions and users do not have choices
  • Feature test history, reporting and comparison tools
  • Can be combined to create multiple test types
  • Can be altered to assess more than one skill or trait

We provide assessments in three broad categories:

How are these technical assessments different from the Microsoft Skills Assessments available online?

Microsoft has made a small number of these assessments available online for free - ie. they are the same assessments, but we have many more subjects available. Try one at  www.microsoft.com\learning\assessments

Microsoft has supplemented the assessments with skill development information that doesn't come with the assessment product itself, but is available in the Microsoft Skills Assessment for Organizations, and in our ESI product.  Both of those environments provide management environments for assessments, rather than just an individual tool.

What is the difference between technical assessments and practice tests?

Practice Tests Assessments
Prepare the user for a specific project, task or function Quickly appraise a user's knowledge or ability
Model the certification exam Determine skill level before and after training
Display questions and answers Do not display answers
Can display large banks of questions, users have choices Limited in number of questions and users do not have choices
Feature test history and reporting Feature test history, reporting and comparison tools
Typically prepare users for one skill or certification Can be altered to assess more than one skill or trait

The IT Aptitude assessment identifies those with an inclination for IT-related technologies. Individuals with a technical aptitude can effectively learn technology while being able to apply their skills. Key features of the IT Aptitude assessment include:

  • Available online
  • Instant score reports
  • Psychometrically validated
  • Secure results

Corporate HR managers and staffing agencies can use the IT Aptitude Assessment for:

  • Screening prospective employees
  • Benchmarking successful employees to identify the best
  • "Promote from within" placement
  • Identifying employees or candidates who are likely to benefit from a technical training investment

Desktop Application Assessments

These assessments utilise "Live-in-the-Application" technology to assess a candidate's ability to complete tasks within actual Microsoft Office XP applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. The assessment measures an individual's proficiency at performing tasks within the Microsoft Office XP application suites.

Desktop application assessments are available in one time or two time uses. They are designed to identify an individual's strengths and weaknesses, verify desktop application computing skills, determine appropriate level for training sessions, and demonstrate an increase in skills through pre and post training measurement. Features include:

  • Online delivery
  • Live-in-the-Application - perform tasks using the Microsoft Office application, not a simulated environment
